Create a Living Room That's Ready for Guests

Entertaining in a compact Maltese home means every piece has to work harder. A thoughtfully dressed living room, with smart storage, warm textures and inviting extras, can welcome guests comfortably without feeling cluttered or cramped.

Storage that looks as good as it works

A floating media unit brings a sense of order to a living room without taking up precious floor space, which matters in apartments and maisonettes where every square metre counts. Oak-veneer doors in a chevron pattern add a quiet, elegant detail that pairs beautifully with other natural materials in the room, while keeping remote controls, chargers and cables tucked out of sight.

Inside, the LOMVIKEN frame offers a solid base to build this kind of unit around, and a RAGGISAR tray helps keep smaller items corralled on open shelves or side tables. Above it all, the SINNERLIG pendant lamp adds warm, low-hanging light that suits long evenings with friends.

Soft textures for a warmer feel

Dark woods and chrome accents can feel a little cool on their own, which is why natural fibres and soft textiles matter so much in a living room meant for gathering. Cushions, throws and woven touches soften hard edges and make a space feel genuinely lived in, something worth considering as Malta's humid summer evenings give way to milder winter nights indoors.

The BRÖNDEN rug grounds a seating area and adds warmth underfoot, while a LUSTIGKURRE basket, woven from sedge, brings natural texture and doubles as handy storage for throws, magazines or children's toys when guests are expected.

Bring this relaxed style into your own space

If this tactile, modern look appeals, it is easy to recreate using pieces that suit smaller Maltese living rooms just as well as larger ones. Rich materials and elegant storage do not need a vast space to make an impact, they simply need to be chosen with care.

The FRÖSET easy chair offers a comfortable spot for a guest to settle into, and the GAMLEHULT footstool with storage provides extra seating or a footrest while hiding away blankets or games. A SILVERHÖJDEN frame adds flexible storage nearby, and the GLADOM tray table is ideal for serving drinks and nibbles without needing a full dining setup.
