A Shared Bedroom Built for Imagination
Share
A shared children's bedroom does not need a big budget to feel exciting. A few playful touches, clever storage and a layout that respects both togetherness and quiet time can transform a plain room into a proper adventure.
Let the room double as a playground
In this shared bedroom, two brothers turned a plain white space into their own jungle by adding animal and botanical print textiles, which cost little but changed the whole feel of the room instantly. A curved bay window became a stage when curtains were hung in front of it, with a gym mat laid down for acrobatics. A row of hooks fixed low under the windowsill gave the boys an easy place to grab costumes for quick changes, proving that dressing-up storage works best when children can reach it themselves.

Give toys a home that moves with the children
Toy worlds rarely stay in one room, so storage that can travel helps. In this makeover, TROFAST tubs were used to let the boys carry their toys from the bedroom through the rest of the home, and a playful winner's podium look was created with tape and wooden numbers, turning tidying up into another game. It is a good reminder that storage units should always be fixed securely to the wall, particularly important in apartments and maisonettes across Malta where furniture often sits close to doorways and walkways.

Balance shared time with a little privacy
When siblings share a bedroom, the layout matters as much as the decoration. Here, the boys' beds were placed side by side since their bedtimes line up, keeping bedtime routines simple. Yet space was still found for solitude, with one boy building his own reading den from pillows behind the curtains. In compact Maltese homes, where a shared room is often the only option, this kind of thinking, close enough for company, flexible enough for quiet moments, makes a real difference to how well a room actually works day to day.

Choose storage that suits a natural, wooden look
Before the makeover, the room had space and potential but lacked practical storage that matched the family's taste for natural materials over bright plastics. The pine IVAR shelving already in use became the starting point, with new pieces chosen to complement rather than clash with it. It is a useful approach for any home, Maltese or otherwise, where warm wood tones suit the light and heat of the islands rather better than stark white or heavily coloured plastic storage.
