Create a sanctuary at home with IKEA

For harmony and wellbeing at home. Spending increased amounts of time at home has led to us becoming more attuned to our interiors and understanding the impact it has on our comfort and happiness. This is highlighted in this year’s IKEA’s Life at Home Report, which revealed that 75% of the UK said that home has been their sanctuary during the pandemic.
With IKEA’s range of quality and functional products providing plenty of inspiration, it has never been easier and more affordable to style your space in a way that feels right for you and ensure it provides a calming oasis from the outside world.
Clotilde Passalacqua, Interior Design Leader at IKEA UK and Ireland says:
“This year, we’ve all spent more time at home than ever before. For some, this has been difficult, but for many, home has proved to be the haven they needed – for relaxing, rebooting and feeling both safe and comfortable. Overall, 35% of people feel more content and at ease with their surroundings since lockdown, whilst over a third (34%) said their home provides them with more of a mental or emotional sense of privacy.”
“In today’s busy modern world, incorporating simple solutions to facilitate relaxation can help create an idyllic oasis to turn to in our homes. The unique LUBBAN trolley table is stylish yet versatile, with the metal tray offering space for a cosy hot chocolate, whilst the basket can store your favourite books and puzzles. The wheels mean you can move the table around the house as you need whilst the rattan material will bring a touch of rustic beauty and sustainable resource to your space. Incorporating cosy throws and cushions like the warming woollen RÅVAROR throw and floral statement SARALENA velvet cushion will also help create an irresistible chill-out zone.”
“When the possibilities to adjust the three-dimensional aspects of our homes are limited, the invisible design – the use of smell, sound and light – can offer new solutions to the challenges we face in our lives at home today. Findings from last year’s IKEA Life at Home report (2019) show that smell is the sense that we most associate with home, with over 40% of people believing that their homes have their own, recognisable scent. Created in collaboration with Ben Gorham, founder of Byredo, IKEA’s OSYNLIG range will help instil a feeling of calm into any space whilst also adding a beautiful warm glow to the room. Each candle has been designed to provoke emotions that are hard to put into words – from nostalgia for the things you’ve done, to dreams of the things you might – and, above all, to improve life at home.”
“The desire to be closer to nature was already on the rise, but now has a different sense of urgency. Nearly two fifths (39%) of Brits admitted they would consider moving further away from their office in order to get access to outdoor space. Bring the outdoors in by incorporating greenery into your interiors that will help boost the room’s mood. Whether that’s fresh or artificial, plants help create a calming yet vibrant atmosphere, with IKEA’s EPIPREMNUM being a lush and lovely option that adds a pop of natural colour.”
“Finally, there’s no better way to end the day by joining together as a household to relax and enjoy a delicious meal. Research found that during lockdown 39% of Brits have spent more time cooking and 35% have enjoyed the opportunity to spend more time with family. The brand-new looks-like-meat, tastes-like-meat plant ball is great for those looking for a more sustainable choice without compromising on taste. They are delicious when served with the traditional mashed potatoes, lingonberries, and cream sauce or can be paired with a fresh potato salad and kimchi for a lighter dish.”
